When SHU opens at 22:00, it is a cocktail bar. The lighting is warm, the music is present but not loud, and the room is arranged for conversation. Guests arrive, order drinks, and settle into the evening.

From around 22:30, the energy builds. The DJ steps up the tempo. The room fills. The professional L-Acoustics X Series sound system is one of the few purpose-built professional installations in Amsterdam’s hospitality scene and scales up with the crowd. By 23:30, SHU is a fully operational dance club.

The transition is not a gimmick. It is the entire point of the venue.

The cocktail side

SHU Amsterdam works with award-winning bartenders. The menu rotates seasonally. The signature drink, The SHU, is made with Ketel One Citroen vodka, passion fruit syrup, Strega and raspberry, served as a highball over ice. It is the right first order of the evening.

Cocktails are priced in the €15–18 range. The quality is consistent whether you order at 22:15 or 00:15.

The club side

The music at SHU Amsterdam is house, disco and funk. The dance floor opens up as the evening progresses and is fully active from around 23:30. The sound system ensures that the music sounds as good at the bar as it does on the floor.
